On February 28th two patients tested positive for COVID-19 at EvergreenHealth. Suddenly at the forefront of care, EvergreenHealth became the first hospital in the country to manage a community-based outbreak of COVID-19.
Since then, EvergreenHealth:
- Developed one of the first drive-through COVID-19 testing sites in the parking garage of the DeYoung Pavilion.
- Performed 29,000+ COVID-19 tests and cared for 1,000+ COVID-19 positive individuals in the community throughout our health system.
- Partnered with Eli Lily and Company as the only health system from Washington State selected as a trial site to study an antibody therapy that may help newly diagnosed patients’ immune systems clear the SARS-CoV-2 virus more quickly.
- Opened an in-house COVID-19 testing site; this new molecular laboratory was built to support our organization’s non-urgent COVID-19 testing needs using technology from Applied Biosystems (ABI). Although this lab will be dedicated to COVID for the foreseeable future, this new instrumentation is an open platform that has the capability of testing for a wide variety of infectious diseases, cancer markers, genetic abnormalities and more.
As new challenges and needs arise, EvergreenHealth continues to respond quickly and with assurance. Thoughtful leaders and medical experts at EvergreenHealth evaluate opportunities to conduct research and participate in trials, engage in complex conversation across the medical community about vaccine development and distribution, and develop the in-house tools that will provide our community with the best possible care today and also equip us to answer emerging and future health questions.
We can all be part of the solution. Invest in what matters most – the health of our families and each other – and make a gift today to support EvergreenHealth’s greatest needs in our response to the fight against COVID-19.
