Members of the ARU Medical and Management Team, the Halverson family, and the Remak family were invited to join the Foundation team at the Golden Hammer Ceremony on Thursday, July 9th, signifying the start of the Acute Rehabilitation Unit (ARU) remodel. With real golden hammers in tow, attendees threw caution to the wind (figuratively, of course) and gave it their best shot – putting holes in a designated wall that will soon be demolished for improved pivotal upgrades to the facility. Following the ceremony, attendees were treated to a catered lunch in the Michael and Mary Kay Hallman Resource Center in celebration.
The new ARU will feature 14 upgraded rooms that resemble that of a home/hotel bedroom with advanced patient beds, and the addition of a ‘Home Apartment’, all of which will aid in improving patient experience and allowing the opportunity for patients to be on the fast-track to recovery through these enhanced features. The ‘Home Apartment’ will act as the crucial transition between the care of EvergreenHealth to home-life – carefully integrating patients to real-world surroundings such as a kitchen and different living areas. The Home Apartment was named in honor of Nancy Remak’s parents, Gene and Ruth Freedman.
The Golden Hammer Ceremony denoted the kick-off of the four-phase remodel, which is planned to wrap up in the fall of 2015. The new ARU is coming to fruition thanks to the generous donors of the 2014 Evergreen Gala Fund-A-Need and the Remak and Halvorson families. Patients will continue to be treated within the current ARU facility in the Purple Zone but the effect of construction will of course be limited as EvergreenHealth continues to provide excellent care and service to our patients.
